What Happens During Treatment?

Many chemo drugs are given intravenously because this is the most effective method for targeting and killing cancer cells. There are certain drugs that doctors must inject directly into a muscle or even the tumor site. Some chemo drugs come in pill form.

Like radiation, chemo damages your immune system. Antibiotics help fight infections. Even with IV chemo, it isn't unusual to take a dozen pills several times a day. You should always talk with your doctor about any other medicines, vitamins, or supplements that you might want to take. Some of these can be dangerous or interfere with your chemotherapy.
